Artist Statement:

To me art is a combination of personal reflection, inspiration and technique.  Most importantly it is bringing a thought or a feeling (something you can’t touch) into the physical world. Many of my works shown here are inspired by my Celtic origin, as well as my connection with nature.  I was born in Scotland so I feel a special connection to the land.  The landscapes were all a moment in time, frozen.  Time is an important part of all these works because a moment in time exists only in you memory, until you use a creative way to bring it forth into the physical world.  There is so much history to be found in the Scottish landscape.  The memory of the past seems to be imprinted in the land. I like to use light as a focus in many of my artworks.   I focus on light when I paint my paintings.  I feel it is important to capture the true essence of the subject I paint, its light, its mood and it’s feeling.  I do this through colour and composition thinking about the flow of the subject as well as the visual flow of the eye through the composition.
Nature and animals also inspire me.  Horses are often portrayed in my work.  I want to capture their spirit and strength.  In the future I will explore different themes as well as delving deeper into past ideas.  I am inspired to paint and recreate the essence of my experience in life, of different places, people and things.    I will continue to explore the depth of symbolism used by a variety of cultures, to inspire a reflection expressed in my artwork.
